Getting a NEW perspective

Have you ever done a project and you just can't seem to imagine the final outcome? The ending? The new look?

Calling on all designers - this post is for you!

I have a lot of clients that struggle with this aspect of a project....... How do I remedy this you ask? With images like these!

As a designer I do have to be honest though. I have a LOVE - HATE relationship with colored renderings.

What I love:

-They can really cast a vision!

-They can really help clients visualize a space!

-They can really build excitement for a project!

-They can really help you sell a customer on the fence between you and another designer/remodeler/contractor!

-Getting to see a colored render like this next to the finished project!

-Placing a before picture next to one of these next to a finished picture, and really getting to see the design come to life!

What I hate:

-When people get caught up in the colors vs the layout.

-When the color looks different on my screen vs. my clients computer vs. their tablet vs. their phone vs. printed out.

-The time these babies take to complete.

So why do them? Well I don't always do them. Sometimes it depends on if I have time or not. Sometimes I do black and whites to really help the customer focus on layout and function and flow... and not every client needs these to see the vision. Basically, I assess the needs of my client - do they need this to make a decision? Are they really struggling to see the bigger picture? Will these add enough value to my customers experience to warrant the extra time added to the project? Is this a face paced project that we need to work on at lightning speed to meet a target start date or end date?

So my question to you designers is this: What do you do to help your customer see the vision? How do you do this while balancing your time and their time against the clock of the project time line?

Ps - These renderings are done for a project I am working on with NVS Kitchen and Bath's remodeling division.
