Taking a poll........ what is wrong with this picture? This photo is of an existing kitchen, that I currently have in design right now.

If you don't know what's wrong here - I will give you a hint.......... it doesn't meet code. Still don't know? Well it doesn't meet the electrical code for outlets (2'-4' rule). The 2'-4' rule basically states that you need an outlet within 2' to either side of the sink/range, and then at minimum every 4' from those outlets along the wall. Everyone loves big windows, and when this house was built they obviously didn't have any issues with the inspector....but now this violates code. We even checked if we could get grandfathered in and were told no. I never thought I'd wish for smaller windows in a kitchen. Our first solution to this problem got nixed by the clients. We were proposing to put popup outlets into the countertop - but this was a no go. Here are our 2 new options the clients are now kicking around. (Let me preface with the wife is on the shorter side and loves a nice large crown detail)

I know my favorite! The nice thing about the cabinet line we are using is you can adjust width, height, and depth at no charge. I love working with Dura Supreme, because you can do almost anything with them. Of all the cabinet lines I sell, I think this is the best bang for you buck. Don't get me wrong they aren't the cheapest - but have you ever heard you get what you pay for? Not only are their finish options immense, but from a designer's/dealer's stand point, their customer service and warranty departments are amazing! I hope we can figure out this outlet issue otherwise the clients may scrap the whole thing :-/ ......

This is the perfect example of why we have the process we have for our jobs. Imagine if all the product had been ordered, and we were half way through the production, only to fail an electrical inspection. The only solution at that point would be the countertop popup outlets which the clients absolutely hated. I am glad we caught this on the front end instead of having unhappy clients and a big issue during production!
